The inspiration for this oversized two level apartment was 'Parisian Chic' and the glamour of old French apartments. Originally a Georgian house that was converted to three apartments, some of the original decorative features were in disrepair and clumsy additions over the years resulted in a severely fragmented interior.
Our design challenge was to artfully blend the old with a modern reconfigured home that would accommodate four very tall children and their parents. Stunning Sydney harbour views were captured and retained and decorative features restored.
The property was completely gutted, the kitchen relocated and a butler’s pantry incorporating a laundry was discreetly hidden behind kitchen joinery. Two additional bedrooms and an ensuite were created along with over 20 pieces of custom designed joinery resulting in a four bedroom, three bathroom family home.
After the ceilings and fireplace were lovingly restored a cohesive aesthetic was developed through the use of wainscoting and timber mouldings accentuated by dark chevron timber floors. Brass fittings and marble were paired with linen and leather to create a sophisticated interior that is both contemporary and sympathetic to the apartments’ Georgian bones. This once neglected apartment has been transformed into a light filled family oasis with just the right balance of grandeur, glamour and comfort.
