EARTH SEA SKY

Our clients, a lovely elderly couple, had downsized to a two-bedroom apartment in North Sydney, enjoying tranquil views over a canopy of trees. While the location was perfect, the apartment itself needed a complete rethink: the kitchen was small and inefficient, and the bathroom impractical for daily living. The brief was to create a cosy, functional home infused with the couple's favourite colours - red and blue.

The design took inspiration from an artwork we purchased on the couple's behalf before construction, "Murray River Dreaming." Rather than bold reds and blues, we created a palette of ochre and a muted petroleum blue, which were repeated subtly throughout the apartment, creating a warm and cohesive palette.

Custom joinery extended from the new kitchen to address a distinct lack of storage, blending seamlessly with the apartment's layout. The existing oyster lighting was replaced with bespoke, earthy fixtures, adding texture and personality to the space. Furniture was carefully selected for both comfort and practicality, ensuring it was easy to use and suited to the couple's lifestyle.

In the bathroom, the bath was removed to allow for a double vanity, and discreet grab rails were installed, enhancing safety without compromising style. A curated selection of the clients' existing artworks was integrated thoughtfully, contributing to the home's inviting and personal aesthetic.

The result is a home that balances comfort, practicality, and beauty—a space that feels cosy, considered, and completely tailored to its owners. Every detail, from the colour palette to the joinery and furnishings has been designed to create a welcoming sanctuary.
